A new website, a website redesign, an online store or website maintenance — each suits a different situation. This guide helps you work out which route makes sense for your business, without needing to know the technical details first.

1 · First website

A first website for your business

A first website makes sense for new companies, tradespeople, sole traders, smaller service providers, holiday apartments, associations and similar businesses. Its job is simple: customers looking for you find you, quickly understand what you offer and get in touch without any hassle.

If customers currently find you only through recommendations or social media, a website gives you a space that is entirely yours — with your offer, prices and contact details, available around the clock.

What it usually includes

  • a clear presentation of your business and services,
  • contact details and an enquiry form,
  • a layout adapted to mobile phones,
  • basic SEO setup so search engines can find you,
  • the BlocCMS system, so you can edit content yourself later.

This is for you if…

  • you've just started a company or business and aren't online yet,
  • you rely only on Facebook or Instagram, which you don't control,
  • customers ask you “do you have a website?”,
  • you want to come across as organised and trustworthy from the first contact.

What you'll need

  • a short description of your business and a list of services,
  • contact details and your logo, if you have one,
  • a few photos — we'll help with the rest.

Next step: see our [website development service](/en/website-development) or the prices on [website cost](/en/website-cost). A website is usually ready in 2–4 weeks. Website development Case study: HišaNaDlani.si

2 · Redesign

When is it time to redesign your website?

Websites age faster than you'd think. What looked modern a few years ago now puts visitors off — and most visitors never tell you; they simply leave. A website redesign isn't just a new look: it often covers structure, speed, content, user experience and SEO basics as well.

What a redesign usually includes

  • a fresh, modern look that matches your brand,
  • a restructured site so visitors find the essentials quickly,
  • faster loading and a layout adapted to phones,
  • redirects from old addresses so you keep your search rankings,
  • a move to BlocCMS so you can edit content yourself.

Signs your website is outdated

  • it's hard to use on a phone or the layout breaks,
  • it loads slowly,
  • the content is out of date — old prices, services, photos,
  • visitors struggle to find important information,
  • the look no longer represents your business,
  • it doesn't bring in enough enquiries,
  • editing content is complicated or depends on an outside contractor.

What you'll need

  • a link to your current website and access details, if you have them,
  • a list of what bothers you most about the current site,
  • up-to-date content — we'll help you edit it.

3 · Selling online

An online store to start selling

An online store makes sense when you have products or services that customers can order directly — without a phone call or a visit. We build stores on Shopify: we adapt the theme to your brand, import your products, set up payments, shipping and legal pages, and show you how to run the store yourself.

Before you start, it helps to think through a few practical questions — the answers determine the scope of the project.

What a store setup usually includes

  • adapting a Shopify theme to your brand identity,
  • importing products and setting up payments, taxes and shipping zones,
  • legal pages and analytics integration,
  • training so you can run the store yourself — products, orders, promotions and discounts.

Before you start, think about

  • which products you'll sell and how many there are,
  • which payment methods you want to offer,
  • how shipping will work and who will handle it,
  • how you'll manage stock,
  • whether you have product photos and descriptions,
  • who will handle orders and the terms of sale.

What you'll need

  • a list of products with prices (a spreadsheet is fine),
  • product photos and descriptions,
  • details of the shipping and payment options you want to offer.

Next step: see [Shopify store development](/en/shopify-store-development) or our broader [ecommerce development](/en/ecommerce-development) service. An online store is usually ready in 6–10 weeks; a simpler Shopify store with content ready to go can take 2–4 weeks. Shopify store development Our work

4 · Maintenance and support

Website maintenance without the technical worries

A website needs regular care after launch too. Since the terms often get mixed up, here is a quick overview: hosting is the server your website runs on; the domain is your address (for example yourcompany.com); the SSL certificate provides a secure connection with the padlock in the browser; content changes mean editing text and images; and technical maintenance means system updates and making sure all of this keeps running smoothly.

GE-KO can take care of all of the above — including for websites we didn't build.

What the maintenance plan includes

  • regular updates to the CMS and plugins, plus security updates,
  • checks that everything works after updates,
  • fixing minor technical issues and small adjustments,
  • basic technical help with using the system,
  • no lock-in — you can cancel the plan at any time.

Support is for you if…

  • you have a website but nobody to look after it,
  • the developer who built it is no longer available,
  • you need occasional content changes but lack the time or access,
  • you're concerned about security and system updates.

What you'll need

  • access to the website, hosting and domain, if you have them,
  • a short description of any issues or requests — we'll check the rest.

Frequently asked questions

More questions and the contact form on the enquiry page.

How do I know whether I need a new website or just a redesign?

If you already have a website and its content is still relevant but it's slow, outdated or hard to navigate, a redesign is usually enough — we keep what works and fix what doesn't. If you don't have a website, or it's so old it isn't worth saving, a new website makes sense. If in doubt, send us the link and we'll advise you with no obligation. More about website redesign

How much content do I need to prepare before we start?

Less than you think. We need a short description of your business, a list of services or products, contact details and photos, if you have them. We plan the site structure, content layout and design, and we help with the copy.

Can I extend my website later?

Yes. We build websites so they can grow step by step — extra pages, new features or a later move to an online store. You can start with a basic presentation and extend the website as your business grows.

Will I be able to edit the content myself?

Yes. We build websites on our own BlocCMS system, which lets you edit text, images and other content yourself, without technical knowledge. We show you how it works at handover.

Does the website include basic SEO setup?

Yes. Every website is set up so search engines can read it correctly: page titles and descriptions, a sitemap, fast loading and a layout adapted to mobile devices are part of the build, not an extra.

Can GE-KO also take over hosting and the domain?

Yes. We can arrange hosting, the domain and the SSL certificate so everything is in one place and you don't have to coordinate several providers. We also take over websites built by other developers. More about maintenance and takeovers

How long does building a website usually take?

A presentation website is usually live in 2–4 weeks, depending on the scope and how quickly content is approved. An online store usually takes 6–10 weeks, and a simpler Shopify store with content ready to go can take 2–4 weeks. Larger projects take longer — we set the timeline in the proposal.

What if I still don't know which solution I need?

That's fine — it's exactly what this page is for. Briefly describe your business, where you are now and your goal, and we'll look at your needs and suggest a sensible next step with an indicative project scope. The first conversation is free and with no obligation. Describe your project
