Živalce.si: a pet breed portal with a personal corner for owners

Challenge

Anyone choosing a pet browses dozens of breeds — each with its own temperament, needs and quirks. That content is scattered across the web and mostly in English.

Živalce started as a breed guide. As traffic grew, a second need emerged: after bringing an animal home, an owner needs more than a breed description — a daily companion with care and feeding advice, the right contacts, and one place to keep their animal's data.

Goal: A Slovenian content portal where a pet owner finds breeds, verified guides and local providers in one place.

Solution

We designed the portal as a breed database in seven categories — dogs, cats, rabbits, parrots, rodents, aquarium fish and terrarium animals — with a fast search, trait labels (for beginners, apartment-friendly, family, active) and regular guides that cite their sources.

With the redesign we added "Your corner": a free account where every animal gets a profile with a photo and a diary, the owner logs weight and follows it on a chart, and reminders for care and check-ups also arrive by email. The directory connects breeders, dog schools and groomers. The portal runs in three languages and is fully optimised for phones.
